On 7 Feb 2017, SCI’s Young Chemists’ Panel, in collaboration with Syngenta, will hold a one-day conference at Jealott's Hill International Research Centre to cover the fundamentals of analytical chemistry in an industrial setting, as well as discussing some of the latest advances in the field. The programme is aimed at both undergraduates and recent graduates working in the chemical sciences and will be of relevance to anyone working within chemical sciences in industry or academia who is looking to expand their understanding of the analytical techniques used across industrial sectors. This event is not aimed specifically at those pursuing a career in analytical science.
The keynote speaker is Professor Ian Wright, a multidisciplinary scientist of the solar system who is the Principal Investigator for the Ptolemy instrument – part of the Rosetta mission that successfully made measurements on the surface of a comet. Ptolemy was born out of many years of experience gained through designing and building novel instruments for use in the laboratory. His talk is entitled Field*-deployable Mass Spectrometry (*where the field is the surface of a comet).
Other speakers come from a range of disciplines, including environmental chemistry, pharmacology, and general analytical science, and there will be interactive problem solving workshops in the afternoon session. Throughout the day, there will be networking opportunities as well as instrument vendors, graduate recruiters, a full exhibition, and tours of Syngenta facilities, including the large green houses and artificial water tower.
