Synopsis

The Plant of the Year Award was established in 1965 to recognise significant contributions in Australia to profitable and sustainable manufacturing operations, including operational, scientific and technology aspects. No award has been made in years when no applicants of a sufficient quality were submitted. After a hiatus of several years, the Award was revived in 2023 with judging criteria focusing on:

  • Occupational and environmental health and safety
  • Innovation
  • What needs are met (industrial, community and/or social)
  • Contribution to the circular economy
  • Contribution to general health and wellbeing
  • Contribution to the general economy

This event will formally recognise the award winner and highly commended runner up with both facilities being in the Greater Adelaide area. The 2023 Plant of the Year is to be awarded to Southern Region Waste Resource Authority (SRWRA) for its Southern Materials Recovery Facility (SMRF) at Seaford Heights, with Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) being highly commended for their Hydrogen Park South Australia (HyP SA) operations at Tonsley.
