Synopsis
Join SCI's Biotechnology Group for a lecture which will explore the market for bioplastics and bio-based chemicals in the UK and from an international perspective. There will be a focus on “Industrial Biotechnology” and how the next generation of platform chemicals and materials will be derived from bio-based inputs and will rest on the industrialisation of biology through the use of synthetic biology coupled with traditional chemical approaches. The speaker will examine the UK’s position on these technologies and will discuss the technical and commercial drivers for success in the market drawing on 10 years of experience of running a bioplastics technology business.Programme

With extensive experience of value generation in both public market and private equity environments, Paul has a track record of business turnaround and reorganisation to drive profitable growth. His expertise includes leadership in the chemical and fine chemical sector as well as across the FMCG manufacturing, electrical equipment and life sciences/biotechnology fields.
Since 2007, Paul has led the development of Biome Bioplastics. A leader in starch and cellulose based bioplastics, the company’s business strategy now includes the commercialisation of industrial biotechnology, with several projects exploring the selective disintegration of lignin using microbes and enzymes to produce aromatic chemicals for the bioplastics market.
