Synopsis

This is the fourth event of the SCI Mid-Career Group and has been designed to provide a platform for knowledge exchange and learning for mid-career professionals and organisations working in the chemical or chemistry using industries.

The aim of this event is for SCI members to understand the importance of influence and authentic leadership. Dr Ruth Smith’s model for authentic leadership has a strong emphasis on emotional intelligence as well as reviewing supporting neuroscience.

Delegates are expected to include business and HR leaders as well as mid-career professionals and the event will be interactive including workshops. All delegates will be expected to participate in a constructive way in an interactive panel discussion to help identify solutions and best practices which can address the aims of the event.

Dr Ruth Smith

Dr Ruth Smith is one of the UK’s most experienced Executive Coach and facilitators. She is passionate about making a sustainable and enduring difference for her clients and has challenged yet supported her clients to be inspirational for themselves and others. Clients describe Ruth's events and her style as 'energising, engaging and insightful'.
Ruth has worked in corporate organisations, as well as running her own businesses. She offers clients strategic business knowledge, leadership knowledge and experience as well as demonstrable commercial acumen. She is considered excellent at building rapport and connecting with Senior Executives. She has been a coach and facilitator for over 20 years and has worked in a range of sectors. She has provided support for executive leadership development to mainly FTSE 250 and 100 corporations from legal to manufacturing working with over 1500 leaders who are mainly Board members, Directors and Executive teams. She has over 7500 coaching hours. Ruth has also two non- executive Director roles as Chair of trustees for Middlesbrough and Stockton MIND as well as on the Board of trustees for Refuge. Her qualifications include a Psychology degree, an MBA from a leading UK business school and a PhD in Relationship Marketing.
She has a particular interest in developing Authentic Leaders, believing that authentic leadership is what distinguishes exceptional leaders. Furthermore, with both the current pandemic demanding a different kind of leadership and a crisis of trust with our leaders, Authentic Leadership is needed now more than ever before in our organisations and indeed the wider world. Her model for Authentic Leadership has a strong emphasis on emotional intelligence as well as the supporting neuroscience. Ruth also is a published author on Authentic Leadership with her book ‘Where Authentic Leaders DARE: From Professional Competence to Inspiring Leadership’.
