Climate change, in particular, means that environmental impact is a very important consideration in the design, construction and maintenance of roads. This encourages the introduction of innovative solutions in the development of new materials that are appropriate to meet this need. Common solutions have included recycling and use of waste materials.
Whole life cost analysis can favour more durable products that reduce traffic congestion caused by road maintenance. The other important consideration in the design of road surfacing materials is safety for the user, assessed by resistance to skidding.
This event will look at recent developments in pavement surfacing materials, including the use of high-performance additives, alternative aggregates, and waste materials. Are they capable of improving efficiency, effectiveness and, possibly, competitive advantage?
