Synopsis

In the face of unprecedented global challenges, the necessity for an interdisciplinary approach to sustainability has never been more urgent. The second edition of SCI’s Where Science Meets Business Conference will focus on the theme of ‘Strategic Sustainability’, benefitting from SCI’s unique position at the interface of academia and industry.

The conference will bridge the gap between these sectors and also welcome perspectives from the scientific, industrial, environmental, social science, legal, economic, and ethics communities, fostering an open dialogue that is crucial for innovating the long-standing scientific industrial processes.

Academics leading key sustainability research initiatives will share their insights and breakthroughs. Complementing this, senior executives from SCI’s extensive Corporate Partner Network will provide an industry viewpoint. They will discuss the current state of the chemical industry, the hurdles it faces, and the path forward towards achieving sustainability.
Join us for a series of engaging talks, panels, and networking opportunities designed to facilitate collaboration and drive meaningful change.

Themes

The conference will focus on key thematic areas essential for tackling the challenge of re-engineering complex and highly optimised scientific processes, many of which have roots in the Industrial Revolution. Key topics will include:

Policy and Regulation: Exploring the strategic management practices, global policies, regulations, and economic implications necessary for sustainability, including the role of corporate social responsibility.

Sustainable Technologies and Innovation: Examining the innovative solutions required for sustainability, including advancing low-carbon feedstocks, developing bio-based solutions, and enhancing renewable energy technologies.

Manufacturing and Supply Chains: Sustainable supply chain management, manufacturing practices, scaling up sustainable solutions, and improving circularity through recycling initiatives.
Standards and Measurements: The methods and challenges of measuring and monitoring sustainability from a global perspective, including Life Cycle Analysis and emerging market trends.
