Synopsis
In 1975 “The Richard Seligman Memorial Trust” was endowed by the APV Company, for the SCI to administer, in honour of its founder Dr Richard Seligman commemorating his contribution to Food Engineering, an area of science just as vital today as it was when he started his career in 1904. The 20th Century saw a revolution in food process engineering, with technological advances meeting the challenges of food safety, availability and affordability. Now that we are well into the 21st Century, the need to feed a population growing towards 10 billion people, simultaneously addressing the new challenges of environmental sustainability and diet, together with the need to continue ensuring food safety, availability and affordability requires science and technology to transform how we feed ourselves.
Attendees
Our 17th Seligman lecture addresses the need to evolve our modern food system and how ‘Precision fermentation in food manufacturing’, a food processing technique used for thousands of years, may now be re-emerging as one possible route to address the challenge of delivering more sustainable food. The lecture will see our three accomplished speakers share their perspectives, followed by a panel discussion including Q&A with the audience and our speakers.
Programme
The full programme will be confirmed in due course.
