SCI, London, UK

Registration Closed

This event is no longer available for registration.

Training course

This SCI sponsored training course is intended to provide Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for chemists and engineers who are involved with the specification, design, operation and maintenance of ion exchange water purification plant.

Previous IEX event training courses have received wide acclaim from attendees.  This year we will be running the following course:

Mon - Tues 12 - 13: Introduction course

The IEX Conference will precede the technical training courses for more information click here

Speakers

Andy Mosley

RWE Generation UK

Andrew completed a degree in chemistry and Environmental Chemistry at Aberdeen University before joining the Power Industry in 1998 with British Energy. Since joining the Industry he has held a number of technical roles focussed on power plant chemistry and water treatment. He is a Charted Chemist and is currently the Chemistry Portfolio Technical Lead for RWE Generation UK

Carl Atkinson

EDF Energy

Carl Atkinson holds the role of treasurer on the organising committee for the IEX 2022 conference and has had a wide and varied career working in the power generation industry for more than 40 years. After leaving school at 16 he initially worked at the 4000MW, originally coal fired, Drax Power Station in North Yorkshire and subsequently in various corporate functions, both in London and the West Country, supporting nuclear power stations. Following the completion of his Masters degree in chemistry in 2003 he moved into the corporate chemistry function at EDF Energy specialising in a range areas including ion exchange technology. He is currently continuing academic studies part time at the University of Sheffield working towards a PhD the subject of which is ion exchange. His is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and is a Chartered Chemist and a Chartered Scientist.

Chris Bell

Ovivo UK Ltd

Christopher Bell (B.Sc, M.Sc, MCIWEM C.Eng) has worked at Ovivo Water UK Ltd for the last twenty one years designing and commissioning demineralisation water treatment plants for worldwide applications. He initially joined the company as a process engineer when the company was called Kennicott Water Systems Ltd and has since held various roles within the company. His current role is product manager for the pure water section of the energy group providing technical support to projects and proposals activities. Prior to joining Kennicott Water Systems he was involved in the operation and maintenance of ultrapure and waste water plants for a semiconductor facility.

Christopher Bresner

Purolite Ltd

Since completing his PhD, and post-doctoral research position at the Cardiff School of Chemistry, Chris Bresner moved into his first industrial position as a polymer bead synthesis chemist prior to joining Purolite. In 2010, he took up his R&D position at Purolite’s Research & Development Centre of Excellence developing new resin products. His current position as Research and Development Manager overseas multiple projects globally, involving the development of new and existing products, and aiding customers with their polymer-based processes from small scale R&D to full scale plant production.

Dave Hayhurst

Dave is in his second period of working as a Technical Sales Manager for Purolite based in the UK. He first became involved in the ion exchange industry in 2008, joining Purolite following some years in technical roles in the Pharma industry. He then spent a number of years managing the northern UK and Ireland for Purolite before moving to spend some time in commercial roles in Pharma.
Dave returned to Purolite in 2019 to manage the central and southwestern UK and his remit covers both Purolite Core and Life Science business.
He holds a Ph.D., Macromolecular Synthetic Organic Chemistry from the University of Manchester, UK.

Duncan Rosie

Purolite Ltd

Duncan is an industrial chemist whose introduction to ion exchange came in the 1980’s via chromatographic separation R&D in the sugar industry and this interest was rekindled in the 2000’s as R&D consultant to a specialty API process centred around ion exchange. Duncan then joined Purolite in 2014 as Technical Sales Manager in South Africa where he focusses on water treatment, sugar and chemical processing ion exchange applications.

Gareth Jones

Ovivo Water Ltd

Gareth Jones joined UKAEA as an apprentice in 1974. During this time at UKAEA he gained a BSc in Mechanical Engineering. He joined Rolls-Royce in 1985 working on Nuclear Decommissioning projects, during which time he became a Chartered Engineer and obtain an MBA from Newcastle University. In 1997 he was transferred to Kennicott (now Ovivo) as a Senior Manager overseeing the Installation and Commissioning Department, he is currently the Senior Manager for Ovivo UK Parts and Service

Joe Woolley

Xtech Process Water Limited

After completing a degree in Chemical and Process Engineering and spending a short period commissioning in the municipal water sector, he spent 9 years in commissioning and project work primarily in industrial ion exchange and membrane systems. A change of company in 2009 focussed on developing his process design skills but maintained a hand in site activities, thereby providing a valuable link from conception and detailed design to commissioning and handover. In 2020, Joe started Xtech Process Water to provide design and technical support to a variety of companies typically wherever a high purity water requirement exists.

Lukasz Warachim

Lanxess

Lukasz Warachim graduated Technical University of Silesia in 2000 with a specialization in Water and Wastewater Treatment, M.Sc. Engineer.
Prior to LANXESS, he was working for companies dealing with industrial water treatment and corrosion inhibition.
Warachim joined LANXESS in 2008 and for four years was working as sales representative for Lewatit® ion exchange resins in Poland.
In 2012 he joined LANXESS’ new business line for reverse osmosis membranes (Lewabrane®) – first as product manager, afterwards as technical and application manager.
In 2021, once the RO business was sold to another company, he joined LANXESS LPT’s Technical Marketing team and is responsible for Industrial Water Treatment segment.

Richard Hill

Whitewater Limited

Richard Hill is a Chartered Chemical Engineer with over forty five years' experience in water treatment.
His involvement in water and wastewater management has covered a variety of industries including municipal water supply, power generation, pharmaceuticals, metal finishing, biotechnology, semiconductor manufacture, oil refining and food and drink.
Currently, he is an Associate Professor at the University Nottingham and a Visiting Fellow at the Water Science Institute at Cranfield University.
He was a founder member and past Secretary of the Institution of Chemical Engineers' Water Special Interest Group and a former Chairman of the Institution of Chemical Engineers' Professional Formation Forum. He is currently Chairman of the IChemE’s Appeals Panel.
