SCI welcomes the independent review of business engagement compiled for the Labour Party by Iain Anderson, published yesterday. This report is the clearest indication yet that a Labour government would understand the need for public and private sectors to work arm-in-arm to drive growth and prosperity right across the UK.

By rallying our country’s enviable scientific and business resources and focusing on the commercialisation of our incredible innovations, we can build a brighter British industrial future for all.

SCI looks forward to continuing this crucial dialogue between business, science and politics, and to exploring what more must be done to make the UK the world-class destination for cutting-edge scientific businesses of all shapes and sizes.

The next government needs a single Innovation and Science Growth Council to directly advise the prime minister. Currently, there are an estimated 70 scientific advisory councils speaking to government, causing confusion and serving to crowd out the voice of business. Science, industrialisation and innovation needs to be at the heart of government if Britain is to be a driving force in the new technological revolution.
