Animesh Sengar, Seligman Travel Bursary Recipient 2024"Receiving the “SCI Seligman APV Travel Bursary Award” was a privilege for my doctoral studies. This award facilitated me to attend the Conference of Food Engineering (CoFE) held in Seattle, Washington, USA, from August 25th to 28th, 2024. Achieving this travel award, gave me an invaluable opportunity to participate in well-structured technical sessions and explore the latest scientific advances in food engineering. I was able to engage in discussions with experts in the field of Food Engineering.

"As a PhD student, I presented a poster titled “Ultrasound assisted sequential extraction of water and alkali soluble proteins from 8 Irish-grown faba bean varieties”. This research focuses on evaluating the potential of ultrasound technology for protein isolation and functionality modification. In recent years, Ireland has seen a significant increase in faba bean cultivation and production, with their high protein content making them a promising alternative protein source. This research is a part of ‘Shift+Enter’ project which follows a Farm-to-Fork approach, aiming to utilise Irish-grown crops in developing plant-based meat alternatives. The CoFE provided an excellent platform for me to share my research findings and connect with fellow researchers.

"I would like to thank the SCI Seligman Trust for providing me the opportunity to receive this prestigious award. This experience has inspired me with new and innovative ideas which will help me to develop new research plans for my doctoral thesis which will drive my research forward. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to my supervisors, Dr Shivani Pathania (Senior Research Officer, Teagasc) and Dr Uma Tiwari (Lecturer, Technological University Dublin), for their guidance and support. I would also like to thank my co-authors, Dr Sheila Alves and Prof Brijesh K Tiwari, for their valuable input and mentorship."
