Nevetha Ravindran was awarded a Seligman Travel Bursary to attend the The 6th International Conference on Food Properties (ICFP6) was held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 28-30 January. Here she tells us about her highlights from the conference.

Nevetha Ravindran"The 6th International Conference on Food Properties (ICFP6) was held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 28-30 January, bringing together researchers, scientists, and industry professionals working across all aspects of food technology, driving sustainable innovation. The conference featured keynote lectures with parallel technical sessions and poster presentations.

"The conference commenced with an inaugural session followed by keynote lectures from leading experts in food science and technology. The talks focused on emerging areas such as sustainable protein systems, advanced food characterisation techniques, clean-label product development, circular bio economy approaches, novel drying and extraction techniques, sustainability-driven food innovations, and extrusion. These sessions provided a strong scientific foundation and set the tone for discussions on translating research into industrial applications.

"I presented my work on sustainable protein valorisation and its translational research into real-time food systems as natural hydrocolloids. I discussed the physicochemical and functional properties of the protein I extracted, highlighted their scalability and translational potential. The session chair and participants raised thoughtful questions regarding comparative functional performance and formulation optimisation. The discussion was engaging and provided valuable feedback that will help refine my ongoing research work. The session included presentations from researchers working on rheology, food ingredient functionality, and product development. The conference provided me with the platform to network with fellow presenters and delegates. These discussions allowed deeper exchanges about methodology, analytical techniques, and potential collaborative ideas.

"A significant highlight of the conference was the award ceremony, during which I was honoured with the “Young Scientist Award (Student Category)” and the “SCI Seligman APV Travel Bursary Award” for my research contributions. Receiving these awards at an international conference was a meaningful milestone in my academic journey. It acknowledged the scientific relevance and impact of my work and served as strong encouragement for my continued research efforts.

"Overall, the conference provided exposure to current global research trends and opportunities for networking and collaboration, as well as professional recognition through the aforementioned awards. The support from the Seligman Travel Bursary enabled me to attend, present my research internationally, and receive this recognition. The experience has significantly contributed to my academic growth, research confidence, and future career development.

"I am highly grateful to the Seligman Travel Bursary Committee for their support."
