Christina Mohan is a 2024 Canada Student Merit Award winner. She achieved this award for obtaining the highest standing of her class in the fourth and final year of her degree. Here is a brief biography of the winner.
Christina Mohan graduated in Honours Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo in 2024 with a specialisation in process control, modelling and optimisation as well as in management sciences. She is currently a Junior Probabilistic Safety Analysis Engineer at Candu Energy Inc., a subsidary of AtkinsRéalis, working on the safety cases for the CANDU MONARK and Cernavoda 3/4 new build projects.
In 2021, Christina co-founded and has since led the North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN) Waterloo chapter, which hosts professional development and networking events to raise student awareness about the opportunities in the nuclear industry. Upon graduation, she took on a more significant leadership role as the Canadian Regional Lead at NAYGN, overseeing all the Canadian local chapters and planning the annual regional conference among other regional networking events. She has also been a member of the Organisation of Canadian Nuclear Industries 2022/2023 Youth Shadow Council, where she alongside other young professionals organised social media campaigns and webinars to promote the benefits of nuclear energy and returned as an advisor for the 2023/2024 council. Christina has amplified her passion for nuclear power generation with her co-op placements at Natural Resources Canada in the Nuclear Energy Division, Nuclear Promise X Inc. and Westinghouse Electric Company. Her current roles at Candu Energy Inc. and NAYGN reflect this continued passion for nuclear power generation and a clean energy future!
