Jérémy Olivier, Canada Student Merit Award Winner 2024Jérémy Olivier is a 2024 Canada Student Merit Award winner. He achieved this award for obtaining the highest standing of his class in the fourth and final year of his degree. Here is a brief biography of the winner.

Jérémy Olivier earned the International Baccalaureate Diploma from Ashbury College in 2021 before going on to complete a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Bishop’s University, graduating in May 2024. During his undergraduate studies, he was a teaching assistant for General and Organic Chemistry laboratory courses and worked as a chemistry tutor at Bishop’s University, providing one-on-one support to undergraduate students. He was also a science tutor at Bishop’s College School, offering academic support to high school students enrolled in the IB Diploma Programme.

Jeremy’s research at Bishop’s included investigating a method for the modular synthesis of CBD analogs under the supervision of Dr Alexandre Drouin, as well as brewing analytical chemistry research with Dr Dale Wood in partnership with Bishop’s Arches, the university’s on-site brewery. In addition, he spent two summers as a research assistant with the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Research Institute, where he contributed to studies in pediatric intensive care and medical conference outcomes—leading to a co-authored publication in the International Journal of Medical Education (IJME).

He is now pursuing a Master of Science in Chemistry at McGill University under the supervision of Dr Bruce Arndtsen, where his current research focuses on developing novel approaches to transition-metal catalyzed carbonylation chemistry.
