Ana Luisa Granja is a 2025 Canada Student Merit Award winner. She achieved this award for obtaining the highest standing of her class in the fourth and final year of her degree. Here is a brief biography of the winner.
"I graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2025 with a BSc in Honours Chemistry with distinction. I joined Professor Parisa Mehrkhodavandi’s research group in 2023, where I worked on indium-catalysed polymerization. In the summer of 2024, I was a research assistant in the Clean Energy Innovation branch of the National Research Council of Canada, focusing on electrocatalysts for water electrolysis. For my honours thesis, I joined Dr. Eva Nichols’ group, where I investigated proton-coupled electron transfer processes in porphyrin-based electrocatalysts. My thesis was awarded the Michael Fryzuk Prize for Excellence in Undergraduate Chemistry Research.
"I have been an active member of the UBC chemistry community, serving as treasurer of the Undergraduate Chemistry Society and helping to organise undergraduate research conferences and departmental events. I also worked as a teaching assistant in undergraduate organic chemistry laboratories.
"I am currently pursuing a PhD in biocatalysis at the University of Cambridge as a Gates Cambridge Scholar."
