Mike Pimentel is a 2022 Canada Student Merit Award winner. He achieved this award for obtaining the highest standing of his class in the fourth and final year of his degree. Here is a brief biography of the winner.
Mike graduated from Cambrian College’s Chemical Engineering Technology programme in 2012. After seven years of working in the Mineral Processing field in progressive roles, Mike returned to academia to complete Lakehead University’s Chemical Engineering programme. In 2022, Mike graduated from Lakehead with First Class Standing in Chemical Engineering and achieved the President’s List for the 2021/2022 academic year.
As part of the final year capstone project, Mike was the project lead in designing an atmospheric distillation unit for crude oil with three other students. The capstone project and other Lakehead courses, this has led Mike to have a particular passion for process modeling, simulation, and reaction kinetics.
Currently, Mike works as a Process Engineer-In-Training at Teck Metals Ltd in Trail, British Columbia. In his spare time, Mike enjoys weightlifting, hiking, traveling, and continuous learning. Mike is excited to apply the knowledge and problem-solving skills he has gained from Lakehead and apply them into the extractive metallurgy field.
