Chemicals Stakeholder Forum

SCI Executive Director 2010-13, Joanne Lyall writes:
I represent SCI on the UK Chemicals Stakeholder Forum, which is a DEFRA sponsored forum which advises the UK government on managing risks to the environment and to human health via the environment, that may result from the production, distribution and use of chemicals. While a lot of the work of the forum relates to regulation, especially REACH, the aspects that SCI is more involved with are:

  • Communication and encouragement of best practice and innovation
  • Promoting more effective linkages throughout the chemicals supply chain and between all those with an interest in the future of a sustainable and competitive chemicals industry

At the UKCSF meeting in April 2011, I did a presentation about SCI and how we deliver on sustainability initiatives (below). This was part of a series of presentations by forum members sharing our approaches to sustainability in an effort to share best practice and encourage linkages through the supply chain. Rob Andrew, Chair of SEG and Alan Maries, Chair of the Environment Group, kindly contributed feedback from their groups to assist with the presentation. Rob Andrew also has an ongoing involvement in representing SCI on the Horizon Scanning Group of UKCSF which focuses on environmental and business aspects of sustainability.
