The 23rd edition of the SCI Young Chemists’ Panel ‘Annual Review Meeting’ will be held at SCI in Belgrave Square, London on 1 December 2016. This highly popular event has become one of the fixtures in the calendar for organic and medicinal chemists from both academic and industrial backgrounds and this year is kindly sponsored by UCB and Proximagen.
This one-day meeting comprises a series of review lectures given by some of the most prominent rising stars of academia in the UK and Europe, showcasing a wide range of interesting and relevant areas of research within the organic and medicinal chemistry spheres. Many of the previous speakers have since become leading figures in academia. In addition to these review lectures, a leading academic or industrial researcher is invited to give a plenary lecture about their own research. Recent keynote speakers include Varinder Aggarwal, Eric Carreira, Tim Donohoe, Mark Gaunt and Hon Wai Lam.
The 23rd Annual Review Meeting is titled ‘Hot Topics in Organic Synthesis’ and will explore a diverse range of topics including: organocatalysis, natural product synthesis, unusual regioselectivity in C-H bond activation, frustrated Lewis pairs and novel fragments in drug discovery. A comprehensive overview of each topic will be presented, highlighting trends, new methods and applicability in other areas of research and industry. The keynote lecture for the 2016 Meeting will be delivered by Professor Jonathan Clayden from the University of Bristol.
All delegates receive a hardcopy of the lecture materials, which support the lectures and are invaluable for further reading after the meeting. This aspect of the Review Meeting is always well-received by delegates.
A poster session will run throughout the day, providing an excellent opportunity for graduates to demonstrate their current research to an audience of academic and industrial delegates in a stimulating environment. Each delegate will receive a vote to choose the winner of the poster prize. If you are interested in submitting a poster, please send a maximum one A4 page abstract to conferences@soci.org with the subject line ‘23rd Annual Review Meeting - poster submission’ by Friday 4 November 2016.
Further details, including the full programme and more information on registration for the meeting, are available via the link below. To take advantage of the early bird deadline, please register before
Friday 21 October 2016.
An exhibition will run alongside the conference during refreshment breaks and a range of companies will exhibit this year. Delegates are invited to visit the exhibits of Springer, GPE Scientific and VWR.
The Organising Committee for the 2016 event is Armando Carlone (Dr Reddy’s), Max Espensen (Proximagen), Chris Jones (Queen Mary University) and Simon Lewis (University of Bath).
