The PG Department of Chemistry, Karnataka University, Dharwad hosted the 45th Annual Convention of Chemistry and International Conference on ‘Recent Advances in Chemistry’ under the auspices of the Indian Chemical Society, Kolkata from 23-27 November 2008. Karnataka University is one of the oldest universities of India, established at Dharwad in 1949 with the Department of Chemistry founded in 1953.
The conference gave me the opportunity to interact and exchange experiences with the experts and hear the latest on recent and emerging issues. For me, coming from the new generation of students, research scholars and teachers, it was inspiring. Many came from abroad, including the Chief Guest, Professor Anthony P. Davis from the University of Bristol, and others were from all parts of India. It is certainly going to help me in nurturing my skills and developing the ability to solve problems to help society and enrich quality of life.
During the conference period I visited the chemistry department and saw various sophisticated instruments like the 300 MHz NMR, GCMS, spectoflurimeter, and stopped flow UV-visible spectrophotometer. The endowment lectures and invited lectures were very informative and will help me to academically. Overall the conference was a rich experience for me as a participant.
I would like to thank SCI for considering my application for a Travel Bursary. I benefited a lot from the conference and look forward to present my research work at other international conferences and symposia in the future. Receiving financial assistance from an organisation like SCI is an honour for me and once again I would like to thank you.
