On Thursday 21 March 2013, SCI's Young Chemists' Panel organised an event called Molecular Interactions in Drug Discovery which was held at the Pfizer Lecture Theatre at the University of Cambridge. Lectures were delivered by leading experts in the field, and topics included the preferred geometries and energetics of interactions (such as hydrogen-bonds, aromatic interactions and halogen bonds) as well as bioisosterism and how to evaluate whether an observed whether an observed interaction is important or not. This successful event attracted over 90 attendees.
Available Conference Papers
- Keynote lecture: Thinking about molecular interactions in drug discovery, Dr Martin Stahl, Hoffman La Roche
- Protein interactions with fluorine and other halogens, Dr Anna Vulpetti, Novartis
- Bioisosterism in drug discovery, Dr Nathan Brown, Institute of Cancer Research
- Experiment and theory in the study of intermolecular interactions, Dr Frank Allen, Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre
