Early Career Award

Launching in 2025

SCI members willingly give their time and energy to help SCI flourish. Launching in 2025, the Early Career award offers the opportunity to recognise the contributions of our early career members' enthusiasm, dedication, and service during their membership with SCI.

The award consists of a certificate and one year free membership of SCI. The award will be presented at the Annual General Meeting.

Normally, a maximum of three Early Career Recognition Awards will be presented in any one year.

Award Information

Nominations

Nominations can be made by any SCI member or staff member, via completion of the online application form. Nominators should detail the achievements and contributions of their nominee in no more than 500 words.

Nominations will be sought from all members and staff, including members of the governance committees, the interest groups and editorial boards will be invited to participate in the nomination process. Nominees should not be informed that they are being nominated, the process should remain confidential.

Nominations will be reviewed by SCI’s Careers Committee and approved by the Board of Trustees.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Length of service: a minimum of two years of consecutive SCI membership,
  2. Scope – one or more of any of the following:
    • Service on one or more committees.
    • Held a committee officer position.
    • Contributed to the outputs of their committee.
    • Increased overall committee membership.
    • Served as an SCI Ambassador for a minimum of 1 year.
    • Shown a high level of commitment to SCI activity e.g. career events, volunteering opportunities.
  3. Impact – one or more of the following:
    • Has had a demonstrable positive impact on SCI through their commitment and activity.
    • Has shown active participation and attendance at multiple early career events.

SCI e-members are not eligible to be nominated, nor to make a nomination, for an Early Career Award.

Lampitt Medal

The Lampitt Medal commemorates Leslie Lampitt (1887-1957), who worked tirelessly for SCI in many roles throughout his life. The Lampitt Medal provides a means by which SCI can honour members who have given their own gifts of time, leadership, vision and enthusiasm to more than one area of the Society's activities.

Distinguished Service Award (DSA)

Launched in 2001, the Distinguished Service Award recognises committed volunteers and offers a chance to applaud the enthusiasm, hard work and goodwill of longer-serving Members of all component parts of the Society.

The Society Medal

The Society Medal is SCI's most prestigious medal. It was first awarded to John Glover in 1896, the inventor of the Glover Tower. The Society Medal has become recognised as a major accolade, marking outstanding contributions to the territory 'Where Science Meets Business'.
