Croda releases first biotechnology report

4 October 2022

Aside from food, personal care has the highest bio-renewable raw material intake of any chemicals-using sector.

SCI Corporate Partner, Croda International Plc, has launched its first biotechnology report – the first in a series that aims to help other forward-thinking companies leverage the opportunities offered by biotechnology.

The Biotechnology: Personal Care Market report focuses on opportunities in the personal care sector, where biotechnology can help meet sustainability goals, and how it can generate new effects to improve personal care brands for consumers.

Croda will publish further reports on the application of biotechnology across a range of sectors, including agriculture and home care, over the remainder of the series.

While biotechnology capabilities have developed in recent years, Croda claims that the approach remains niche and subject to various challenges including performance, cost, production at scale, and sustainability.

The company asserts that where these barriers can be overcome, personal care companies will be able to find smarter ways to meet the growing performance and sustainability requirements of their consumers, through new biotechnology-derived ingredients and replacements for those already in use.

Commenting on the new report, Damian Kelly, Vice President, Innovation and Technology Development at Croda said: ‘We hope that these reports open new conversations across industries on the benefits of biotechnology and the potential it has to solve longstanding problems.

‘At Croda, we have already seen how biotechnology can be used to create differentiated products especially in personal care. The wider adoption of biotechnology within the personal care market could lead to new discoveries and unlock future growth.’
