Taste, wellbeing and fragrance leader Givaudan announces corporate agreement with SCI (Society of Chemical Industry)
Global innovation hub SCI (Society of Chemical Industry) has announced an agreement with leading fragrance, health and wellbeing company Givaudan. The Swiss-headquartered company is the latest addition to SCI’s corporate partnership community.
Givaudan’s origins can be traced back to Grasse, in the south of France, over 250 years ago. At that time, the perfume in the area was used to offset the odours from the tanning process in glove-making. In 1768, Antoine Chiris transformed his passion for perfume from an artisanal business into the company which is now Givaudan.
Today, the company works to shape the future of food, fragrance and beauty, acting as a co-creator with partners, suppliers and customers. Givaudan products enhance beverages, meals, perfumes and laundry care. Givaudan recently launched the Customer Foresight futurescaping platform, which will leverage big data and artificial intelligence (AI) technology with Givaudan’s deep sector expertise. This will enable the company to better meet fast-changing consumer and customer needs as its key sectors face continued disruption. The firm invests around 10% of annual turnover in research, uncovering new ingredients and technologies.
Partnering with SCI will enable Givaudan to collaborate with an innovation community to support in delivering on its business targets. Givaudan employees globally can now access SCI’s leading edge scientific training, mentoring and development programmes, international networks, digital platforms, conferences and portfolio of publications – including SCI’s well established C&I magazine.
According to Jeremy Compton, Global Head of Science and Technology Fragrances at Givaudan:
‘It has been good to find a partner who has extended horizontal connections across the science community which enable strong industrial interactions and discussions, as well as one which can help develop and mentor the careers of our scientists. We are very much looking forward to working with the SCI in this context.’
SCI CEO Sharon Todd said:
‘Like SCI, Givaudan is at the forefront of innovation. It has a long heritage and commitment to helping ensure we speed up the translation of science from the laboratory and into business for societal good. SCI understands how consumer taste is changing rapidly as we respond to global challenges like climate change. Consumers want to make more mindful, sustainable choices and the SCI global network is at the forefront of developments in this area. SCI is a global innovation hub connecting industry and academia to produce new scientific products for society.’
