SME clusters across the UK are to receive a share of £75 million to pioneer solutions from health care to net-zero as well as boost local economies. The initiatives will build on existing clusters of high-tech innovation in particular regions, For example the agricultural technology and food tech in East Anglia and health technologies in Yorkshire.
An international multidisciplinary group of researchers have developed a method to counter the problem of falsified Covid-19 vaccines. The partners have demonstrated the use of specialised laser spectroscopy technique to rapidly authenticate vaccines while in unopened vials. Collaborators include the University of Huddersfield and Agilent Technologies.

Researchers at the UK Dementia Research Institute have developed a new form of deep-brain stimulation that could provide another option for the treatment of diseases such as Alzheimer’s. The technology has been trialled on 20 volunteers.
