Rideal Travel Bursary recipient, Tamara Talakesh, reports from the UK

18 November 2025

Tamara Talakesh was awarded a Rideal Travel Bursary to attend the 39th ECIS UK Colloids Conference, held in the UK, in September 2025. Here she tells us her highlights from the conference.

Tamara Talakesh"I am grateful to the SCI-RSC Rideal Trust for their generous financial support, which enabled me to attend the ECIS2025-UK Colloids conference in September held at Bristol. Although I was only able to attend two days of the conference—Day 1 and Day 4—my experience was both enriching and pivotal for my academic and professional development.

"On the first day, I had the opportunity to present my poster during the final session. My research focuses on nano drug delivery systems, and the poster highlighted recent advances in nanoparticle formulation and targeted delivery mechanisms. Presenting at such a prestigious event allowed me to engage with leading scientists across disciplines, receive valuable feedback, and discuss potential collaborations. The exposure significantly boosted my confidence and helped me refine the way I communicate complex scientific ideas to a broader audience.

"Day 4 was particularly impactful, as it featured sessions on neutron scattering—a technique central to my master’s thesis. The talks provided deep insights into the application of neutron scattering in characterising nanomaterials. I was especially inspired by the case studies demonstrating how neutron techniques can probe molecular interactions and structural dynamics at the nanoscale. These discussions have already begun to shape the experimental design of my upcoming research, and I am now exploring opportunities to access neutron facilities for future work.

"Attending this conference has not only expanded my technical knowledge but also strengthened my career prospects. I connected with researchers from academia and industry, learned about emerging trends in nanomedicine, and gained a clearer vision of potential career paths in pharmaceutical sciences and materials characterisation.

"I would like to once again acknowledge the SCI-RSC Rideal Trust for their financial contribution, which made this experience possible. I proudly mentioned their support during my poster presentation and am pleased to do so here in this report. Their commitment to supporting early-career researchers is deeply appreciated and has had a tangible impact on my scientific journey."
