Ian Andvaag is a 2019 Canada Student Merit Award winner. He achieved this award for obtaining the highest standing of his class in the fourth and final year of his degree. Here is a brief biography of the winner.
Ian Andvaag is a Master’s student at the University of Saskatchewan. Ian was awarded a Schulich Leader Scholarship in 2012 to study STEM at the University of Saskatchewan. Ian started off his undergraduate programme studying soil science before he moved to the chemistry department as a result of taking an inspiring course in soil chemistry. He is a two-time NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award recipient.
Ian’s undergraduate research project has resulted in a paper published in ACS Applied Nanomaterials. In 2019, Ian became a co-owner of JackFish SEC, a Saskatoon-based startup which offers accessories for infrared spectroelectrochemistry.
In his spare time, Ian has a keen interest in analog stereo photography. Ian is honoured to be chosen as the recipient of the SCI Canada Student Merit Award 2019.
