The Bright SCIdea challenge is a national competition for UK and ROI university students. Teams are required to put forward a plausible concept for a product or service and demonstrate how they would build a business to commercialise their product.
This is an exciting opportunity for young scientists to develop their business skills, with SCI providing exclusive access to a series of short training videos, where innovative business experts cover the basic aspects of starting your own business, and effectively pitching it to investors.
Finalists will pitch their ideas to a panel of industry experts, allowing them to raise their profile within the commercial scientific community. The winning team will be selected on the basis of a well-considered proposal focusing on the commercialisation of their innovation and understanding of the societal benefits. Download the entrant handbook here.
A cash prize of £1,000 will be awarded to the winning team, sponsored by Synthomer. All shortlisted team members will also receive additional benefits, including one year of complimentary SCI membership and further networking opportunities.
Teams should be made up of three to five students (undergraduate or postgraduate) and are encouraged to be multi-disciplinary. Visit bit.ly/SCIdea2018 or contact us at communications@soci.org to find out how to get involved and gain access to the training videos.
