After winning the 2019 Bright SCIdea Challenge and then awarded ‘Young Entrepreneurs of the Year 2019’ by HRH The Duke of York, the Durham University students behind Plastech Innovations are now finalists in the Shell LiveWIRE Top Ten Innovators Global Awards.
Shell said that it was committed to championing sustainability around the world, and one way of doing this was by rewarding entrepreneurs whose business work towards the circular economy.
Plastech Innovation provides a solution to reduce the volume of plastic waste entering the natural environment by reprocessing it into aggregate to be used in concrete and alternative construction materials.
On reaching the final, the Plastech team of Natasha Boulding, Philip Buckley and Scott Bush said ‘Plastech Innovation is thrilled to be in the final of Shell LiveWIRE Top Ten Innovators Global Awards. It is great that such a large company like Shell has so many different competitions to support start-ups from across the globe. Support from organisations and companies such as SCI and Shell allow us to achieve our goals faster, allowing us to positively impact plastic pollution on a global scale.’
