Leadership in Diversity in Science-Led Industry Award

The Leadership in Diversity in Science-Led Industry Award recognises an initiative, led by an individual or a team, which has resulted in a significant impact to encourage a more equal, diverse and inclusive workforce in science-led industry.

Award Information

Nominations

Applications will be accepted by self- or third-party nomination.

Nominations will consist of:

  • A completed online nomination form
  • Details of the initiative which has led to increased diversity across science-led industry, and the part which the nominee has played to lead this initiative provided by completion of an electronic application form sent to awards@soci.org.
  • Nominations must be supported by a senior sponsor who will endorse the application

Presentation of Award

Finalists will be invited to send one representative to the SCI Innovation and Sustainability Awards Dinner held in May.

The winners will receive a framed certificate, and a trophy.

Eligibility Criteria

Any individual or team working in a company of any size which has a primary focus in products/processes requiring chemistry or chemistry-related science, and who has shown leadership in encouraging diversity in science-led industry, resulting in a more equal, diverse and inclusive workforce.

Nominations close 10 January 2025 (deadline extended!)

Previous recipients

  • WINNER: Syngenta - recognising the work of Karine LeCoq and Catherine Waller, who have established a highly supportive and successful Neurodiversity Network providing practical adjustments for a more inclusive and equitable workplace.
  • 2nd place: Synthomer - recognising the work of Ana Peroni and Christophe Bartels, who have overseen the creation of several DE&I employee resource groups and the establishment of the DE&I Ambassador Network in Asia and the Synthomer Inclusive Leadership Programme.
  • 3rd place: Johnson Matthey and UCB - Johnson Matthey for key initiatives such as the establishment of the Pride in JM LGBT+ Network Group, a focus on gender diversity in the JM Clean Air India Technology team, and the work of Simone Coultress who is driving inclusion at all levels. UCB was celebrated for the UpSkill Me and Work In Science Week initiatives.

Canada Student Merit Awards

The SCI Canada Student Merit Award is awarded annually to the student who has achieved the highest standing in the 4th and final year of a chemistry, biochemistry or chemical engineering undergraduate program.
