Aditi Borkar was born and brought up in a small town in the central part of India. Even as a child, she was amazed by the wonders of science and thus aspired to become a scientist to quell her curiosity. This quest led her to undertaking a double masters in biotechnology sciences from the University of Pune.
During these years, she undertook mostly independent projects at premium research institutes and universities in India. These projects dealt mainly with computational studies on the structure and dynamics of DNA and proteins and their implication on their function inside the cell. The research results have been published in four different articles in peer-reviewed international journals. During this time, Aditi also won accolades such as the Young Scientist Scholarship (KVPY) funded by the Government of India, the Summer Fellowship of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Junior Research Fellowship of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, India.
Currently, Aditi is pursuing a PhD in biophysical chemistry at the University of Cambridge. Her PhD studies are fully funded by the Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarship 2010 administered by St John's College, Cambridge. For her doctoral research, Aditi is focusing on the structure dynamics of RNA using a combination of experimental and computational techniques. Her results will have applications in biology, particularly in drug design and the molecular physiology of diseases.
Aditi enjoys networking and takes an active interest in expanding her social and scientific horizons. With the SCI scholarship, Aditi hopes to realise her personal and professional interests. She also enjoys fiction and fantasy novels and movies, and Bollywood music, and likes to try her hand at painting.
